Information Security Training – Agano Consulting Inc. Partners with K-90EA

NAIROBI, Kenya/TORONTO, Canada – Monday May 18, 2009.

A partnership agreement for Information Security Training has been reached between Canadian-based Agano Consulting Inc and Nairobi-based K-Ninety East Africa Ltd (K-90EA). The deal was reached between Dr. Matunda Nyanchama of Agano Consulting Inc. and Mr. Preston Odera of K-90EA.

The two companies will collaborate to bring world-class but affordable Information Security, Risk Management and IT Assurance training in East Africa, where Agano Consulting Inc. will provide expert knowledge and K-90EA will provide the market reach in East Africa.

“This is a win-win approach for us all,” said Preston Odera of K-90EA, adding that the partnership will enrich its current IT business offerings.

Dr. Nyanchama says risks of exploitation increase with growing use of IT in organizations. In addition, growth of Internet worsens these risks as it creates more potential sources of attack. The need for information security, risk management and assurance knowledge has never been greater, he added.

It is expected that IT use will grow several-fold in the immediate future as organizations tap into technology to cut costs and increase efficiency and productivity. Moreover, Internet use is expected to reach new highs in East Africa with the completion in June of the SEACOM Optical Fibre Project. This will provide affordable bandwidth, and in turn lower Internet access costs thus making it easy for entry to the Internet.

The first of the two training courses will take place in July. They are Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Bootcamp (June 29th – July 3rd) for individuals that have enrolled for CISSP examination. The second course (July 13th – July 17th) is for security professors and IT auditors.

“CISSP is the premier certification for information security professionals worldwide”, says Mr. Dismas Ong’ondi a Kenya-based CISSP. “It fortuitous that the training and examinations will now be held in Nairobi”, he adds saying that “unlike in the past candidates had to travel to examination centres outside of East Africa.”

Note: Registration for the CISSP exams in Nairobi to be held on July 11th, 2009 will close on May 30th. For details visit www.isc2.org.

Matunda,

This is really great news to the people of East Africa. I have a good number of friends who wanted to write the CISSP exam but could not just because there were no exam centers in East Africa.

Candidates were required to fly to South Africa or Egypt to write the exam.

I am really impressed by the value Agano Consulting is bringing to East Africa. And yes, as you said, there is a tremendous growth of the use of ICT in the region but there has not been enough initiatives to address the dark side that ICT always comes with.

It is comforting to see professionals like you have taken this initiative.

Do you have a mailing list? If so please register my email address so that I can assist in circulating the news.
